The Qi Kung (pronounced Chi Gung) that is practiced here at Medicia is a varied set of gental, yet profoundly effective movements that are performed with attention to: posture, correct movement mechanics, and deep bellie breathing - which eventually turns into whole body breathing. These movements are all performed with a relationship and awareness to the tan tien, which is the energetic center of body, located in the abdomanial and low back region. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Tan Tien is where all health eminates in our body. The integration of movements with the breath and the directed attention on the Tan Tien, creates an awareness of and influences dimensions of our being that are not part of our usual awareness and not part of traditional exercise programs. The term Qi Kung can be described as, “Cultivating the life force or vital-energy that flows through us and all things in the universe by means of steady, consistent practice.” These subtle exercises, which are simple to learn, yet difficult to master, if done consistently, will show dramatic changes in any area of problem for you.
You can do Qi Kung to maintain your health, heal your body, calm your mind, and reconnect with your spirit or true self. When these three aspects of your being are integrated, it encourages a positive outlook on life and helps eliminate harmful attitudes and behaviors. It also creates a balanced life style, which brings greater harmony, stability, and enjoyment
The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qi Kung reduce stress, bring peaceful sleep at night, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.
Those who maintain a consistent practice of Qi Kung find that it helps them regain a youthful vitality, maintain health even into old age and helps speed recovery from illness.
T’ai Chi Chuan which is a subset of Qi Kung, is a more sophisticated set of movments, or a “form”, that helps uses your body to connect your intelect (or mind) to the universal principles of nature, of which all of Creation adheres to.
Qi Kung and T’ai Chi Chuan are a great adjuct to all therapies here at Medicia because they give you tools that you can use on a daily basis to help yourself, and keep the effects of your treatements throughout your weekly schedule.
